HR - Making employees feel valued
Recognising and appreciating an employee for a job well done is a practice quite prevalent in India Inc, but according to a recent study, apart from recognising employees for the tasks accomplished it is also important to value them for what they bring on board
According to a recent most organisations recognise an employee for what he/she does. On average, only less than half of the employees in a typical organisation feel valued as an employee and about one-third actively believe that they are not valued. “Valuing is about appreciating the worth of something or someone and of esteeming something or someone highly. When we value employees, we appreciate them for who they are and what they bring to the organisation. We acknowledge them not merely for the tasks, but for the deeper intrinsic worth they add to the organisation by just being there.”
And according to experts there is significant difference between valuing an employee and appreciating him/her for the tasks. “Tasks are assigned according to the organisation and industry needs and appreciation is an important part of employee well being. However, valuing an employee is far more superior to the appreciation for the immediate tasks that are accomplished. In the long run valuing an employee through mutual trust and respect, empowerment and treating them with dignity is much more rewarding both for the employee and the organization.”
